Assassin's Creed Odyssey managed to convince everyone, although some premises did not play in favor of the episode developed by Ubisoft Quebec. The team, already author of the not too bright Assassin's Creed Syndicate has indeed made some very risky choices for this chapter, above all the idea of setting the adventure in ancient Greece, before the events of Assassin's Creed Origins and therefore in an age when the Assassins did not even exist in their embryonic form, the Confraternity of the Occult . Despite this, the red thread of the Fruits of Eden and the mysteries related to Prima Civilizzazione have kept alive the interest of fans, providing them with a new picture of how powerful artifacts are they were recovered for the first time and of their original function, as well as the chosen ones who had the task of finding them, overcoming difficult challenges. The story of Alexios and Kassandra kept us company for over seventy hours needed to complete the three storylines that characterize the game. After that, when you reach level 50 and get the most powerful weapons and skills you could ever want, we asked ourselves: and now?

Choices and consequences

As stated in our review of Assassin's Creed Odyssey and in the special on whether or not to complete the game twice, there are several ways to approach the last episode of the Ubisoft series, which introduces the gameplay some substantial novelties. The exploratory mode, indicated in the initial settings as the best way to enjoy the experience, is one of the most important, since it changes the dynamics of each quest in a decisive manner, stopping to always indicate where to go and letting us know it later having talked to some characters.

The search for the right place becomes part of the mission and the use of the Icaro eagle becomes a feature consistent with this vision, giving us the last piece of a puzzle that in some cases it presents itself in a discreetly multifaceted way. Using the exploration mode instead of the assisted one, however, the overall duration of the campaign increases a lot and aspects such as the discovery of places and the riding sessions are further emphasized, to the full advantage of the atmosphere. The second, big news is represented by the system of choices and consequences introduced in Odyssey, which goes hand in hand with the selectable dialogues and the romance element, which allows you to entertain love affairs with most NPCs, regardless of gender.

This system brings with it a variable progression in its main events and a series of different endings, depending on whether you choose to take a cautious and peaceful approach or to let go of the protagonist's thirst for revenge, which in effects of reasons for being angry with certain characters has plenty of them. All these elements are intertwined within the three storylines that, as already mentioned, characterize the campaign of the game: the story of the family of Alexios and Kassandra, the plot linked to the First Civilization and the hunt for the members of the Sect of Cosmos . These are events that intersect at different levels and it is therefore impossible to manage them in a completely separate way, but you will inevitably end up completing the missions in the order we have just reported, although on the narrative level this could cause some perplexity. When you have completed the campaign in its entirety, you will be ready to try your hand at the endgame : this is what awaits you.

What's left of the day

The great freedom of action that is granted during the campaign of Assassin's Creed Odyssey allows you to tackle the secondary missions in the order we prefer, also counting on automatic leveling: this is a feature introduced with an update in Assassin's Creed Origins and that we find here implemented natively. This feature, in practice, adjusts the level of our enemies to avoid having to face opponents much weaker than us, trivializing the challenge.

This means that probably at the end of the three storylines you will find on the map a dozen or so more quests that you had put aside in an attempt to proceed as quickly as possible towards the conclusion of the story, and that can offer you some extra hours of entertainment with their plots and their characters. In our case, after more than seventy hours we realized that we had left behind most of the Kefalonia missions, the land where Kassandra or Alexios grew up after the tragic escape from Sparta, as well as a sequence of tasks related to some of the most famous characters that make up the fascinating lore of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, such as "The Dilemma of the fool" by Democritus, some quests with the protagonist Socrates and the many assignments available at the bulletin boards of the various places.

In this last case we talk about simple fetch quests, in which we must retrieve an object and deliver it to its rightful owner, eliminate targets or embark (literally) in a sequence of naval combat in order to defeat the pirate vessels that move on the coasts of Greece. One thing you probably will not be able to do, even after so many hours, is to reveal the immense game map in its entirety. This is an aspect not to be underestimated, as discovering missing portions of the scenario will not only give you further satisfactions, but will also lead you to stumble upon enemy positions to be conquered, manned villas in which a head of the nation is hiding or camps controlled by groups ruthless, such as the followers of Ares.

Post-launch content

Depending on what is left behind, therefore, the endowment of the Assassin's Creed Odyssey can be more or less rich and meaningful. Well, it is precisely in this perspective that the post-launch content planned by Ubisoft will be placed. With the update 1.0.6 the mission has been introduced The show must continue, which falls within the scope of the Stories Lost of Greece that is one of the themes around which the free packages of the game will rotate.
