According to Matt Piscatella, well-known NPD analyst, Nintendo Switch should become the best-selling console in 2018 in the US thanks to a surge in sales expected in the final quarter of the year.

In a new post published on the official website of NPD group, Piscatella has updated its previous forecasts referring to the American market, confirming some entries and making slight variations based on current trends.

In his previous analysis, the analyst indicated that Switch would be running to become the best-selling console of the year. This assessment has remained unchanged, but now exponential growth is expected for units placed in the final months of 2018, in particular thanks to the release of Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu !, Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

More generally, Piscatella predicts that all the consoles of the current generation will sell at least four million units this year. Taking the life cycle as a yardstick, the figures totaled by PS4 and Xbox One will exceed by 6% those of PS2 and the first Xbox and 30% those of PS3 and Xbox 360 Overall sales should exceed 17.5 million units; this would be the highest figure in the US from 2012 to today.

As for the software, Piscatella predicts that Red Dead Redemption 2 will exceed Call of Duty 4: Black Ops in regards to sales, with Battlefield V destined to reach the third position. The forecasts for hardware sales do not seem to be influenced by the best titles coming, since no exclusive to Nintendo Switch is present in the top 10. In 2018 is expected to publish 400 games in physical edition, and is expected growth in software sales of 8%. NPD also expects double-digit growth for sales from the digital market.

"The final part of this year will be unquestionably the best of the decade," concluded Piscatella. "By combining the market phenomenon represented by Fortnite and the constant positive momentum for both hardware and accessories, double-digit growth in total spending in 2018 seems likely."
